Is Servant of the Lake Free?

The full Servant of the Lake is paid, but two free routes exist: the Lite build on iOS and Android, and the Steam demo. Here is what each one covers.

No — the full game is paid on every platform. But there are two genuinely free ways to play part of it, and neither is a trial that expires.

Lite is a real free version, not a timer

Lite is a separate free app on both mobile stores. It covers the opening of the game — arriving at the estate, the kitchen, and getting Mr. Aldous out of bed — and then stops. No countdown, no ads, no in-app purchases.

It has also been out far longer than the paid game: on Android since 20 April 2026, roughly four months before launch, where it has passed 100,000 installs with a 4.8 average from 2,808 ratings.

Worth noting for parents: Lite is rated Everyone, the full game is rated Teen. The content that raises the rating is all past where Lite stops.

The Steam demo covers the same slice

Same opening, on desktop. If you have played Lite there is nothing new in the demo and vice versa — they are the same content on different hardware.

What "free" does not get you

The demo and Lite both end at the same point. Everything after — the garden, the family reunion, and all of Day 2 and Day 3 — is in the paid release only. That is the large majority of the game.

Beware of these

Search results for a paid game two days after launch attract the predictable things:

  • "Free APK" pages. The Android build is a $4.99 paid app. Anything offering the full game as a free APK is distributing a cracked or repackaged file, and the usual risks apply.
  • "Free Steam key" giveaways. Rusty Lake has not run one for this title. Sites promising keys for a survey or a signup are farming your details.
  • Confusing Lite with the full game. Lite is genuinely free and genuinely official — it is simply not the whole game.

The only official free builds are the two in the table above, both from Rusty Lake, both on the official stores.
